Support the Symphony

Your Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra is passionately committed to lead and enrich the culture of the region. We attract, inspire, and educate a diverse audience; foster a growing appreciation for excellent music and regional talent; and provide imaginative programming through community involvement.

“We expected world-class music from the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra. What we didn’t expect was the immediate and warm welcome within this amazing community! We’ve met wonderful friends, making memories with each experience. For us, the symphony is more than exquisite concerts. We support it because it does amazing work with kids of all ages and elevates our community. We share the A2SO’s deeply held belief that concerts are places for everyone. We hope you will join us for a performance and become more involved.”

— Patrick & Demetrike Wells-O’Brien

“If I played a CD of this orchestra for someone, they would have thought it was the Vienna Philharmonic. It proves my point that you don’t have to be in a great big city to have a great orchestra.”

— William Bolcom, National Medal of Arts, Pulitzer Prize, and Grammy Award-winner composer

Who We Serve

The A2SO is a hub for connecting our community through music. Guided by the highest standards of artistry from our professional musicians, we bring music to the places people call home. Our performances and programs extend far beyond the concert stage — reaching classrooms, daycare centers, libraries, farmers markets, senior centers, and assisted living communities. Along the way, we collaborate with community partners from A to Z, from the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum to Zingerman’s, to make great music happen throughout our region.

We take pride in serving our community including providing:

  • Title I schools in Washtenaw, Wayne, Livingston, and Oakland counties with Instrument Petting Zoos, classroom ensembles, conductor visits. We provide bus subsidies for our annual daytime youth concert to schools in need
  • Day care centers in low-income communities and in hospitals with free Instrument Petting Zoos
  • Free KinderConcerts in public libraries, reaching parents and caregivers of all socio-economic backgrounds as well as groups of toddlers from day-care centers serving low-income communities
  • Farmers Market programs provide free concert tickets to low-income music lovers living in our five-county area participating in food assistance programs
  • Free school visits by A2SO ensembles to area schools
  • Free Instrument Petting Zoos for various festivals in Southeast Michigan
  • Free concert tickets to Ann Arbor High School music students
  • Reduced price concert tickets for students and seniors
  • Hundreds of free concert tickets each year to our other area nonprofits for their auctions and fundraisers.

What Your Gift Supports

Your gift helps bring live classical music to over 70,000 listeners annually. Ticket prices cover only 35% of the cost of a concert. Individual, foundation, and corporate giving helps provide critical operating support to our present season and beyond, ensuring our concerts on stage and off cultivate the audiences and musicians of tomorrow.

Special thanks to the Michigan Arts & Culture Council and the National Endowment for the Arts for their support.
