April 21, 2022 (Ann Arbor, MI) — Experience the full spectrum of human emotion amid a powerful, joyous and life-affirming 2022/23 concert series from the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra (A²SO). The A²SO’s new season will feature 9 performances at Ann Arbor’s Hill Auditorium and the Michigan Theater, comprising 6 classical mainstage and 3 family-friendly pops concerts. A²SO Executive Director Sarah Calderini remarks: “This visionary season has been designed with our entire audience in mind. We’re proud to celebrate the rich diversity in classical music that has stood the test of time and that promises to still enhance our enjoyment and sense of togetherness.”

After a 2021/22 season that saw the orchestra audition 6 internationally-acclaimed conductor candidates, this upcoming season marks a momentous chapter in the symphony’s history. A new music director is set to join the orchestra, bringing fresh vision, inspired direction and thoughtful leadership to the symphony and the Ann Arbor community that it serves. Due to be announced this coming summer, the A²SO’s music director will continue our mission of forging new connections and collaborations, bringing exceptional music to an ever-expanding audience base and solidifying our position as one of the highest-caliber regional orchestras in the Midwest.

Dynamic and imaginative juxtapositions characterize the A²SO’s 2022-23 mainstage programming. Majestic and expansive masterpieces from Beethoven, Mahler, Berlioz and Dvorak feature alongside fresh, expressive new works by John Adams, Caroline Shaw, Jorge Muñiz, and more. Bringing these musical canvases to dazzling life are some of classical music’s most potent and compelling soloists, with Inon Barnatan, Timothy McAllister, Susan Platts, and Vuvu Mpofu among the lineup appearing over the course of the season.

The A²SO’s innovative and enticing pops series is set to break new ground in 2022/23. A musical tour of soundtracks from Studio Ghibli kicks off the season, followed by a bigger-than-ever-before Holiday Pops extravaganza that will catapult one of Ann Arbor’s favorite festive traditions to new heights. Viral phenom and Grammy Award-nominated singer Cody Fry takes the stage at Hill Auditorium for a pops season-ending fusion of classical crossover, bringing his signature blend of transportative artistry and luminous orchestration to original compositions.

A range of season subscriptions are now available, including both full-season and customized packages that empower concertgoers to tailor the season to serve their needs. First time subscribers receive an additional subscription for free with the purchase of one full-price package. Subscriptions do not include tickets to The Music of Studio Ghibli or Cody Fry | Live in concert, but subscribers will be given pre-sale access to these events.
