October 7, 2021 (Ann Arbor, MI) — The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra is excited to announce the launch of the MY Song program, new for the 2021-2022 school year. Designed for students in grades 3-5, the program will empower kids with the tools they need to begin creating their very own compositions without the need for any prior musical training.
The program will offer beginner-friendly personal kits to help students of any skill level further their knowledge of music fundamentals. Teaching Artists from the A2SO will guide the students throughout the program, offering feedback and giving kids the opportunity to hear their compositions performed back to them in real time. Students’ composition will be recorded by A2SO Teaching Artists after the workshops and provided to teachers to share with families. In its pilot phase the program will be offered free of charge, with Title 1 schools receiving priority.
Initial program design will focus on students in grades 3-5, with expansion into additional grade levels in development. A modified version of MY Song is being debuted as an Ann Arbor Public Schools after-school program at Allen Elementary School. The A2SO hopes the MY Song program will not only allow more students to explore the wonders of music, but also empower them to express themselves in a new, engaging and boundlessly creative way.
